We usually look forward to summer and try to catch last warm days before the true autumn season settles in. But there is something very fascinating about the way nature dresses up in orange and yellow, the way coffee shops smell of pumpkin spice latte, the way sun hits your face while wearing a cosy knit and the way friends gather around the bonfire.
Autumn encourages us to embrace warmth and comfort, and it’s a season that reminds us to reflect, recharge, and appreciate the beauty in change.
1. Nature walks
"Nature is the most wonderful artist." And a therapeut ... and a listener. Immerse in the forest walk coupled with mushroom picking or a beach walk flourishing with sea buckthorn. Calm down, observe and connect with a nature, as it prepares itself for a new season.
2. Seasonal harvest
You don't need to have a garden to enjoy a seasonal harvest. Visit your local farmer's market and nourish your body with organic pumpkins, apples, plums, olives or potatoes. Try to cook a meal from scratch with your loved ones and really enjoy the fall colors on your plate. One of the great ways to be more mindful about the food is to participate in some of the Retreats focused on connecting mindfulness with regenerative farming. Lono's "Back to The Roots" Retreat based in Copenhagen offers several retreats during this fall focused exactly on reconnecting with nature, mindfulness and enjoying a colorful plate of seasonal harvest.
3. Hygge at home
The closest translation to Danish "hygge" is cosy. And autumn is a perfect candidate to start cosying up your home. Create a cozy nook with blankets, warm beverages, and your favourite books or movies. Allow yourself to unwind and recharge. What could be more cosy than a homemade pumpkin spice latte, Autumn In New York with Richard Gere and a jasmine candle?
4. Taking care of your soul
Mindfulness may come in many shape or forms and practising it is not always easy. Take a leap of faith and engage in mindfulness practices during fall, when depression is at it's highest in many countries. Write down what you are grateful for, use guided meditation apps to help you delve into yourself or create your on little tea ceremony, like a Japanese "chanoyu", while reflecting on the status of your mind. Some of my favourite mindfulness questions include
What am I feeling right now?
How can I be kind to myself today?
How can I connect more with a present moment?
5. Taking care of your skin
As the air becomes cooler and drier in the autumn, your skin might wish for an extra treatment. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself with a good quality face oils. One of the true gems in Scandinavian cosmetics is Imogen's Scandi Glow Face Oil. It is produced organically on a farm in Sweden by a fellow mum with years of expertise within beauty industry. The product includes all local and seasonal ingredients such as rosehip, bilberry, sunflower or sea buckthorn, all 100% naturally harvested in a sustainable manner. Leave you face with a natural glow and brighten your October.
6. Plan for the Future
Autumn is a time of transition. Reflect on your goals and intentions for the coming months. Journaling or vision boarding can help clarify what you want to focus on. After looking at the current state of your life and identifying what’s going well and what needs improvement, it’s time to also think about what should come next for the upcoming autumn season. While new habits are usually set at the beginning of the year, why not be ahead and start early this time? With our Habit journal, you can easily track 10 different habits in an effective manner and keep yourself motivated.
Now, who is ready to embrace this season like never before?
